Our eighty-eighth Character Design Challenge started on the 7th of April 2022, the deadline was the 2nd of May 2022. The artists of our community were invited to design their unique vision of an ambitious animal athlete. A model sheet entry obviously makes a great submission for the CDChallenge, but by no means is the only choice you have, nor does submitting a model sheet entry make your design stand out from the rest, by default. Whether you're an established professional, a student, an aspiring artist, or simply an admirer of the art form, CDR invites you to join our ever-expanding community and partake in the celebration of character design excellence. Explore, create, and be inspired as we embark on a journey filled with limitless artistic possibilities. All the artworks submitted via Instagram by tagging the IG page of the community ( @characterdesignchallenge ) will appear on the “tagged” section at the end of each monthly contest, after the official deadline.

For organizational purposes, we will only reply to you if the request is considered acceptable. It’s important to remember though, that even a ‘‘Perfect Entry’’ must meet the Standard of Draftsmanship of our community to be approved (see the paragraph below). Please refrain from using AI art generators in any step of the creation process for your work, including non-character-related elements, such as the background.

Challenge #65: FINAL FANTASY

The best part about World is that how your character looks in the creator is exactly how they will look within the game world itself. We’ve been burned too many times by games that let us create a deceptively good-looking character, and then watching them stumble around like a potato when the game actually starts. The character creation system restricts players to pre-made templates, with generic faces, hairstyles, body sizes, color options, and voices; however, players can mix and match them as they please. Dragon Ball Xenoverse and Xenoverse 2’s character creation system is limited compared to other games, but it wins points because it lets fans live out their dreams of creating their own Dragon Ball characters. If you are after an anime character design website, then DeviantArt is a strong choice. The anime style is one of the most popular, trending styles on the site, and with that comes plenty of interesting anime-styled character designs. Of course, the diversity of styles on DeviantArt is impressive as well, ranging from amateur and beginner character designers to professionals. Picrew has an addictive quality to it and you’ll find it is easy to get lost in many of these generators for minutes at a time, just exploring all the customization available, with each unique style.

Theme of the Month: Traveling Shepherd!

You can’t go wrong with any of them; they all have good character customization, for sure. It relies on the tried and true method of “alter preset faces and bodies with sliders,” and while Aion might not have as many sliders as other games, it has more preset options than you can shake a stick of +5 at. The character creator isn’t too shabby either; it covers the basics of hairstyles and colors, along with some nice sliders for body type options, along with a ton of facial expressions for your avatar. They probably won’t be a raging alcoholic like Dot Pyxis, but hopefully they’ll command just as much respect.
